Flat Stanly helps on the Rouge River!!!!

First we went out kayaking on the lower Rouge River last weekend - my job is basically cleaning up the Rouge - We were taking an author of a MI canoeing book out on the Rouge in Wayne, MI - Flat Stanley will actually be in the picture of our group in the book too ;) I also brought him along to a bug id night. Another program that we run is a volunteer monitoring program, where we send folks out to different locations in the Rouge and they collect insects from the stream bottom. Then we help the volunteers identify the bugs in the lab. (Some bugs are sensitive to pollution, and some are tolerant of it - so we can assign water quality scores based on what bugs rare there). Then I took him to a "grow zone" at U of M D - We have been putting in these grow zones throughout the Rouge watershed to filter storm water with native plants, and help slow down the stormwater and get some of it to infiltrate into the ground. They did a really nice rain garden at U of M D. Finally - he was very helpful in our laminate floor laying project upstairs!

Flat Stanley works at Sony for a day!!!

Jason,

Thank you so much for your picture and for coloring Flat Stanley for Alexia and me. Yesterday he came to work with me. I work for a very big company called Sony and I sell TV's to stores. I have sent you a picture of my very messy desk. You can see FS sitting on my keyboard.
Our office is in Park Ridge NJ and has about 800 people working there. There is also an office near you in Itasca. We have about 20 offices around the country. I hope you enjoy your Halloween and we will send you pictures of Flat Stanely and his adventures with us today.

Your friend,

Flat Stanley visits Memphis!!!

Dear Mariah,
Greetings from Memphis!!
Wow! what fun we have had with Flat Stanley. When Flat Stanley arrived we made sure that he got the chance to do some of the things that he likes to do. Flat Stan began each day by eating a healthy breakfast of Cheerios. He really enjoyed those. He took a trip to Lester School in Memphis, TN. The 6th grade Creative Writing class who is pictured with Flat Stanley was ecstatic to include Stanley in their assignments. He was given a laptop to complete the class assignment and was glad to do so. Because Flat Stanley also likes to read, he participated in the READ 180 class. He chose to read many books throughout the day. What a great time he had at school. He knew that Halloween was nearing, so he decided to play in the pumpkin candy bucket. What an adventurous guy he is! Last but not least, Flat Stan prepared himself to take a ride on the coolest motorcycle ever! That was the highlight of his adventures. Flat Stanley misses you, but wants you to know he is enjoying every minute of every day!!! Take care!

Flat Stanley gets a workout!!!

Dear Julian-
When Flat stanley arrived he told me he was cramped from all of the traveling by mail and wanted to stretch his muscles. I came up with the idea that maybe we can go to the gym and work out together and he was all for it. First we tried to work the stomach muscles by doing some sit ups on a fancy thingy called an ab roller. Boy I tell ya it was Flat stanley's first time on this thingy but he sure worked it good. Then we went to the bench to lift some weights. As you can see from the pictures with the weights Flat stanley was lifting the 40 lb weights....WOW is he strong. After that we went to a machine to work out your back. The name for this machine in gym speak is the lat pull down. On this machine you pull down a bar that is weighted and it helps your back get big and strong. Flat stanley pulled down but the machine pulled him waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay high. It was such a funny sight to see. Flat stanley and i just couldn't stop laughing. We then finished our work out on the elliptical machine. This machine is like practicing running and skiing at the same time. You place your feet onto a platform like a shaped like boot/skis and hold two handles that are like the ski poles. Then you move back and forth like you are going up and down a hill on skis . It helps to build your leg and arm muscles and also helps your breathing. Flat stanley really liked this machine. He said it made him not feel flat anymore. This ended our workout and Flat stanley was then ready to go around and see the sites in the beautiful city of..............Chicago!

Flat Stanley meets a BIG cat!

Dear Alejandra-

I had such a good time visiting my friends in Chicago! The building where they live is an old warehouse where they used to sell fruit. When I arrived, there was a BIG black cat that made me very scared at first because he was actually bigger than me! But, he was a nice cat, so we became friends and I got my picture taken with him. I had a great time playing games with them and I even learned to play the guitar! They showed me the Sears tower and a hot air balloon, but I did not want to go up in the tower or the hot air balloon because they go really high in the air. It was a lot of fun visiting my new friends!
Love- Flat Stanley (with help from Janelle and Eli)

Flat Stanley carves a pumpkin!!!

Dear Jorge-
We had so much fun with Flat Stanley. Our family took him to a fall festival in our town, and he posed with Zack and Allison in their costumes. Then when we got home, Flat Stanley helped us carve our pumpkins. We even found one just his size. Allison and Zack said that Flat Stanley gobbled up all of our green grapes and slept comfortably on our couch.

Thank you for sharing this project with us.

Flat Stanely strumming the guitar in New Jersey!!!

Hi Alondra,

It's me, Flat Stanley!

I had such an adventure. I did a few cool things in New Jersey. The first thing I did was climb a tree! It was so much fun. I was very careful when climbing. That's me just hanging out in that cool tree. Look at the shape of the leaves. Have you ever seen a tree with skinny leave with a pointy end? They look like big blades of grass, right? The next think I did was play the guitar. That's me, trying to play the guitar. It's a little big for me, but I still managed to play a few tunes! I played latin jazz music. I even had a chance to dance! It was so much fun Alondra. Thanks for sending me to New Jersey. I thought I would get to do two of my favorite things, reading and swimming. This trip was so exciting, because I got to do two new things--climb a funny tree and play the guitar. Thanks for sending me on this trip Alondra, wish you were here.

Yours Truly,

Flat Stanley

Flat Stanley helps out on Bateman's Webpage!!!

Dear Bianca (Room 202),

Thank you for letting Flat Stanley come and visit me. He has been hard at work helping me with our school website. He helped me make a special page so that everyone could read more about Flat Stanley's adventures. You can visit the page by clicking here http://www.bateman.cps.k12.il.us/flat_stanley.htm. You'll even see a special picture of him on there too! He's pretty tired out from doing a lot of typing on the computer but he's been such a big help!
Sincerely, Britt(Bateman School Webmaster)

Behind him is the Detroit River and the Ambassador Bridge, which connects Michigan to Canada. He ended his day carving pumpkins and reading books, which he really enjoys! Thank you for letting Flat Stanley visit us in Michigan!

Flat stanley goes bowling in Milwaukee!!!

Dear Zoe,
Thank you for sending me your Flat Stanley.
My name is Skylar. I am 4 years old, but soon I will turn 5. I live in Milwaukee, WI, 1 1/2 hours north of Chicago. I go to St. Bernard's school.

Flat Stanley went with me to my friend Faith's 5th birthday party at the bowling alley. After we bowled, we ate pizza and then had cake. Her cake was very pretty. It was a Dora the Explorer "Dance to the Rescue" cake. Stanley loved bowling and he had so much fun eating pizza with me and my friends.

Today I took a picture of Flat Stanley playing with my top. It was very spinny.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of Flat Stanley at the birthday party.

Yours Truly,
Skylar

Aldo and Kevin's Flat Stanleys made it safely to Andersonville in Chicago. They played tennis together, went to the playground, drank hot chocolate and took a nap with Marty, the cat. They had a wonderful time and are forever best friends!

Flat Stanley in Evanston, IL!!!!

On Sunday, October 19, 2008, Flat Stanley played soccer with the Maroon Flames in Evanston, a suburb of Chicago.
